Ten Years of Overheard: Entertainers

To celebrate ten seasons of Overheard with Evan Smith, this special episode takes a look back at some of our favorite entertainers – actors, musicians and directors – who have been guests on the show and gave us a behind-the-scenes look at their careers.

Isabella Rossellini

Renowned actress and model Isabella Rossellini discusses her legendary career.

Isabella Rossellini grew up in Paris and Rome. At 19, she moved to New York City to work as a translator and journalist for RAI-Italian Television. She began her modeling career at age 28, and in 1982 began a 14-year run as the exclusive spokesperson for the cosmetic brand Lancome. 

Ms. Rossellini, who is the daughter of film legends Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini, made her cinematic debut in 1979. She appeared in films such as “Blue Velvet” and “Death Becomes Her” and has worked with legendary directors like Robert Zemeckis, David O. Russell, David Lynch and Taylor Hackford. At age 66, Ms. Rossellini earned her master’s degree in animal behavior and conservation. Her theatrical show, “Link Link Circus,” centers around animal behavior and cognition. 

Brooklyn Decker

Making the transition from model to actress and entrepreneur, Brooklyn Decker discusses her role in the popular Netflix comedy “Grace and Frankie,” her fashion start-up and balancing work with motherhood.

Brooklyn Decker broke into the public consciousness as a model gracing the pages of Vogue, Elle, GQ, Glamour, Esquire and Cosmopolitan. She cemented her place in pop culture history by appearing on the cover of the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Decker successfully made the transition from being one of the biggest names in modeling to become a Hollywood actress. Decker is married to tennis great Andy Roddick and together they have two children.

Mary Lynn Rajskub

Mary Lynn Rajskub is a comedian and actress, best known for playing Chloe on Fox’s hit series “24.” She has also appeared on “2 Broke Girls,” “Californication,” “Arrested Development,” “Mr. Show” and as a regular panelist on “Chelsea Lately.” Rajskub has also been seen in movies, including “Safety Not Guaranteed” and “The Kings of Summer.”

Kim Gordon

Kim Gordon is a founding member of Sonic Youth and author of the best-selling memoir “Girl in a Band.” The memoir chronicles her childhood in California, her time in New York in the ‘80s and ‘90s and the rise of Sonic Youth. In addition to being a musician and author, Gordon is a fashion designer, actress and artist.

Molly Shannon

Molly Shannon is an Emmy-nominated actress and comedian whose credits include “Never Been Kissed,” “Kath and Kim” and “Saturday Night Live,” where she spent six years as a cast member. Her book, “Tilly the Trickster,” was published in 2011.

Holland Taylor

Holland Taylor is an award-winning actress, acclaimed for her work on stage, in film and on television. Her one-woman play about the life of former Texas governor Ann Richards earned her a Tony nomination in 2013.
