Dr. Peniel E. Joseph holds a joint professorship appointment at the LBJ School of Public Affairs as the Barbara Jordan Chair in Ethics and Political Values and Professor of History in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. He serves as the founding director of the LBJ School’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. A frequent national commentator on issues of civil rights, race, and democracy, he is the author of several award winning books. His latest book is Freedom Season: How 1963 Transformed America’s Civil Rights Revolution.
